Articles Written For My Internship.

Below is a group of stories I have done for the Shawnee Mission School District. I started my internship at the end of my junior year and will continue working with them until I graduate at the end of this year. Working in a real-world learning environment has really solidified that this is what I want to do for a career. I had the opportunity for mentorship and shadowing which really improved my writing abilities.

SM West's Eric Magnus named Theater Teacher of the Year

Student performers and stage crews from Shawnee Mission North, South, West, and Northwest gathered for three days in Wichita to learn new skills, watch live performances, and grow as actors during the 2024 Kansas Thespian Festival.

Junior Phoebe Scala is a stage manager at Shawnee Mission West and has been working on the tech crew since her sophomore year of high school. She says the festival taught her new tips and tricks when it comes to putting together a show.

Shawnee Mission South Students Record Podcast with PBS

I got to work with high schoolers who shared a lot of common interests with me. I help a little bit with the district podcast so they were able to give me some tips and tricks.

Westwood View Art Teacher to Paint Kansas City Heart

This story was super fun because I got to do it all, photos, interviews, and writing. The artist was a little difficult to work with but I really think it all came together in the end.

142 Shawnee Mission Students Earn Seal of Biliteracy

This story was really cool to write. I had never spoken to the English Language Learner students because of the language barrier, this really opened me up to a new experience.

Shawnee Mission Student Journalists Recognized as Top in the Nation

Writing this story was super sentimental to me because I actually made it to NSPA. My name isn't on any on my internship work, so seeing it on the district homepage was really cool.

This was my tightest deadline yet, I had a day to turn over this story. I learned a lot about what a real job in journalism would need, it was exhilarating.

Indian Hills Junior Board celebrates 10th year

I loved writing this story because I got to interact with such a wide array of people, from middle schoolers who were learning about philanthropy to professionals helping these kids.

I got the opportunity to meet some of the smartest high schoolers I think I will ever meet and tell the story of their biggest accomplishment.
